Three-Lakes-Tour

A recreational pleasure-tour in a picture-perfect Bavarian landscape

Tours for connoisseurs

The perfectly balanced tour package for leisurely walkers, families or those on their first alpine excursions, where peak sporting achievement and higher altitude scores are not the primary considerations: pleasant trails passing along lazily meandering streams and across sunny alpine pastures, up onto the alpine foothill peaks of the Spitzing region.

Enjoy the allure of the mountain landscape, on the move in unparalleled natural scenery and the magnificent vistas! The comforting atmosphere and the culinary offers in our alpine huts will captivate you too!

1st day: Spitzingsattel – Schönfeldhütte

The Schönfeldhütte

↑ 300m, 1 hr.*

Jägerkamp: ↑↓ 340m, 2.5 hrs.*

After arriving relaxed via rail & bus, your hiking tour starts at the "Spitzingsattel" bus stop. On the other side of the road and across the car park follow the sign "Schönfeldalm" to the south over a grassy slope into the wood. Upward through the wood (considerably wet after prolonged rainfall!) you will come across open mountain pasture and then curve around to the Schönfeldhütte (1410 m). It is now a good moment to enjoy a snack.

Afterwards, once you have deposited your rucksack, or rather, the additional overnight luggage, you can set off for the hut’s home summit for today with only a light daypack. The trail continues from the left of the hut, at first to the north, up to the Obere Schönfeldalm and from here again towards the north through a sparse forest to a fork in the path. Bear left here (west) and walk across in a long, slightly ascending traverse of the slope beneath the Benzingspitz.

Finally you will arrive, briefly ascending once again, to the summit of Jägerkamp (1746 m). Via the same route you will arrive back down at the hut, where you can enjoy fresh food served to you by the hut’s team, and prior to a well-earned sleep enjoy the evening’s starry splendour.

2nd: Schönfeldhütte – Albert-Link-Hütte

Juicy meadows with exciting views
↑ 820m, ↓ 1180m, 6 hrs.*

Following an invigorating sleep, a nutritious breakfast and with your rucksack shouldered, walk briefly down the road until a sign to the left points out the ascent to the Taubensteinsattel beneath the upper terminus of the Taubensteinbahn cable-car. The trail now leads up and across the pasture slopes of the Oberer Lochgraben into the col and in a few minutes on a wide hiking path over to the Taubensteinhaus. The path continues down from the house across soft alpine meadows in a south-easterly direction to the Kleintiefental-Alm and on a good path in steep, serpentine curves upwards again into Miesingsattel (1704 m). Now about 100 further cumulative metres down into the basin of the Großtiefental-Alm, where the path traverses right (southwards) across to the Kümpflscharte.

After briefly ascending the counterslope, you will reach the wind-gap and a few minutes later the wonderfully situated Rotwandhaus (1737 m). Now only a further 150 cumulative metres of climb and about thirty minutes separate you from Rotwand (1884 m) – the day's target summit with its overwhelming vista far into the High Tauern mountain range.

Follow the same path back to the Rotwandhaus and in a lightly descending traverse, in a few minutes to the Kümpflscharte wind gap. The path branches off here to the south across the Kümpflalm down into the Pfanngraben. Remain walking along the Pfanngraben, and on an ever-broadening trail you will reach the Waitzinger Winterstube tavern and the Valepp valley road. On the romantic hiking trail, strolling alongside the Rote Valepp stream you will reach the Albert-Link-Hütte (1053 m) in 30 minutes, where home-baked bread, smoked speck and local cheeses await your arrival. Enjoy some of the evening’s outstanding cuisine, and overnight, the cosy dormitories!

3rd: Albert-Link-Hütte – Enterrottach

Splendid views from the peak

↑ 640m, ↓ 900m, 4.5–5 hrs.*

Well relaxed, and fortified by a hearty breakfast, walk along the gently ascending road to the Spitzingsee and follow its western shoreline along to the lower terminus of the Kurvenlift T-bar lift (closed during summer). Walk from here up the road to the west to the Untere Firstalm (1318 m) and to the left of, and parallel to, the Firstalm T-bar lift (closed during summer) across the grassy hollow up into the wooded col beneath the Suttenstein.

Follow the sign “Bodenschneid” to the right (northwest) onto the wooded gentle slope and across it, and finally across open terrain, to the rocky summit of the Bodenschneid (1667 m). Carry on past the summit and then turn immediately left across the steep western slope down along several serpentine curves to the Boden-Alm. Walk to the left, halfway across the glade of pasture where the trail branches to the right to Enterrottach. Walk down further to the toll road in the Valepp valley and parallel to it along a beautiful, wooded hiking path along the River Rottach to Enterrottach and to the bus stop.

* Indicated are the cumulative heights in ascent and descent as well as the total walking time without breaks.
